Rocq Capital has strengthened its investment team with the appointment of Paul Garrard as Investment Manager.

Paul joins Rocq with more than 35 years of investment experience, spanning investment operations and portfolio management across fixed income, equities, multi-asset and derivative-based portfolios.

He joins from Union Bancaire Privée (UBP), following its acquisition of Kleinwort Hambros. Paul spent 36 of the past 37 years with Kleinwort and its successor businesses, building extensive experience managing portfolios for private individuals, trusts, pension schemes, charities, funds and institutional clients.

During his career, he has also managed assets for subsidiaries of FTSE-listed companies and served as a director of regulated funds and special purpose vehicles.

At Rocq, Paul will work across the investment team with a particular focus on fixed income, an area in which the business has considerable experience and expertise. His appointment adds further depth to the Guernsey-based team as Rocq continues to grow its private and institutional client base.

John de Garis, Managing Director of Rocq Capital, said:

“Paul brings an exceptional amount of experience and technical knowledge to Rocq, particularly in fixed income, but he is also a very accomplished all-round investment manager.

“Just as importantly, he shares our approach to client service. We’ve built a close-knit team where clients have direct access to experienced investment managers and where ideas are openly discussed and challenged. Paul fits naturally into that environment and adds further strength and depth as the business continues to grow.

“We’re delighted to have him on board.”

Known to almost everyone as Boris, Paul said joining Rocq represented a natural next step after a long career with the Kleinwort business and its subsequent owners.

“After spending so much of my career with one organisation, it was important that any move felt right. I’ve known a number of the Rocq team for many years and have always respected both their investment approach and the way they look after their clients.

“There is a great deal of experience here, but also the independence to discuss ideas openly and make decisions locally. I’m looking forward to contributing to the team and working closely with Rocq’s clients.”

Paul began his working life as an actuarial trainee before moving into investment operations and subsequently investment management.

He is a Chartered Wealth Manager and Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment (CISI). Paul has previously served as President of the CISI Guernsey Branch and remains a member of its committee.
